The Fleet Solid Support Ships are just three ships, but this three ship 1.6 billion pound contract will provide a huge catylist for the UK shipbuilding sector/enterprise, in helping the UK shipbuilding sector become much more than just a grey coloured ship provider. They are warships that serve the Royal Navy but have a higher steel input with some complexity. The UK recently has only built ships that are systems based as in submarines, destroyers and to a lesser extent because of their sheer size, the two super carriers. The FSSS ships being more steel intensive have a higher UK content of UK material than destroyers and frigates and  the MoD need to be  smart to realise the huge tax claw back, socio economic impact, investment in people and plant for a very competitive sector which Pallion will be part of. Pallion will have to show quality and promise to the UK government bodies relevant to any taxpayer funded project and contract to deliver.

The ideal for Pallion's reintroduction into ship fabrication will be relatively simple midship tank hull blocks of these ships. Not a massive amount of fitting out. Or the more curved parts of the ship such as the fore and aft sections where curves and double curved units recquired but where no large amount of fit out is required. Pallion will build up a UK (supply) network for MoD and any UK taxpayer funded projects along with commercial projects. This will start with plate, section, tube steel suppliers along with electrical and pump suppliers etc.

Please note, any such rules hampering UK industry as in procurement were never fair and cannot be used against the UK any longer.
